Kyrgyz Vice PM Ismailova meets with WFP Country Director Bagnoli

Bishkek, June 10, 2020 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan’s Vice Prime Minister Aida Ismailova met with Andrea Bagnoli, Country Director of the UN World Food Program (WFP), the government’s press service said.

Earlier, the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the UN WFP signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the UN WFP Country Strategic Plan in the Kyrgyz Republic for 2018-2022.

The main directions of the five-year plan are:

- improving school nutrition and providing all schools with hot meals by 2022 (now about 60% of schools are covered by the program). WFP will help equip school canteens and train staff;

- improving the food security situation among the most vulnerable groups of the population;

- analytical work on monitoring and analysis of food security;

- adaptation to climate change and disaster risk reduction;

WFP is the first organization in Kyrgyzstan to receive funding from the Green Climate Fund.

During the meeting, Aida Ismailova noted the support provided by WFP to socially vulnerable groups and expressed appreciation to partners for their contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
