Kyrgyz women MPs advocate increased responsibility for kidnapping girls for marriage

Bishkek, April 22, 2021. / Kabar /. A meeting of women deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh took place today, where a discussion of proposals to amend Articles 175 "Abduction of a person for the purpose of marriage" and 170 "Abduction of a person" of the Criminal Code took place.

The event was also attended by chairman of the NGO "Kyrgyz Association of Women Judges" Chynara Aidarbekova, legal expert Irina Letova, lawyer of the State Council "For Reforms and Results" Baktybek Emilbekov, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.

During the discussion, suggestions and recommendations for amendments to the above articles were heard. Women deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh advocate increased responsibility for cases of kidnapping of girls for the purpose of marriage. In the course of further work, amendments to the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic will be developed and presented for public discussion.
