Bishkek, Aug. 7, 2024 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan's Zholaman Sharshenbekov won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
He competed in the 60kg Greco-Roman wrestling tournament and started Aug. 5 at the 1/8 finals.
Sharshenbekov defeated Kazakhstan's Aidos Sultangali in the first bout, then was stronger than Razvan Arnaut of Romania and advanced to the semifinals.
In the 1/2 final bout, the Kyrgyzstani lost to Kenichiro Fumita of Japan in a hard fought match, but kept his chance for a bronze medal.
In the bout for the final third place, Sharshenbekov fought against Mehdi Mohsennejad of Iran and won 3-1 to become the bronze medalist of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
This medal was the first for the Kyrgyz national team at the Games in France and the eighth in history.
