Kyrgyzstan 19 positions up on cybersecurity indicators

Bishkek, July 2, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan rose to 19 positions in cybersecurity indicators.

According to the global cybersecurity index, Kyrgyzstan from 2018 to 2020 has risen from 111th position to 92nd position - a positive trend amounted to a positive growth of 19 positions, the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development said Friday.

By the end of 2020, among countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States Kyrgyzstan demonstrated growth in cybersecurity, coming in 7th place.

The Global Cybersecurity Index includes following indicators: legal, technical, organizational, etc.

As part of the implementation of the cyber security roadmap, within two year Kyrgyzstan was developing and approving government programs, strategies and concepts in order to develop the sphere of information and communication technologies and cyber security.

Thus, as part of legal initiatives, strategic documents were adopted - the concept of information security and the cyber security strategy. To date, a draft law "On Protection of Critical Information Infrastructure of the Kyrgyz Republic" is being developed.

As for technical part, since 2019, 676,918 malware samples were eliminated in state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic, including 663,821 references to malicious resources, 348 unique samples of malware (class ART - advanced persistent threat), not detected by standard antivirus means and designed for surreptitious eavesdropping of personal information.

Within organizational measures, national cyber trainings were held from 2019 to 2021, and the CERT-KG national response team took part in the international cyber trainings in 2019.

In addition, an interdepartmental commission on information and cyber security was created under the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan. Currently, there are plans to implement a project with KOICA to create a security operation center.

Thus, taking into account ongoing work, Kyrgyzstan is progressively moving towards building a national system of cybersecurity, steadily demonstrating growth dynamics.
