Bishkek, April 13, 2021 . / Kabar / . 2021 UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Forum on Financing for Development is taking place on April 12-15 in New York and will provide an inclusive platform to advance an action-oriented dialogue on the solutions on financing the COVID-19 recovery and sustainable development on the path to 2030.
During his keynote speech, UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted that financing for development in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic means an unprecedented effort to mobilize resources and political will.
In this regard, he called for urgent action on six fronts: vaccines must be made available to all; donors and international organizations must step up their efforts on concessional financing; combating the debt crisis by suspending debt burdens, writing off and providing liquidity to countries that need it; investing in people and rebuilding economies in a sustainable and equitable way, consistent with the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.
Addressing the Forum participants, Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN Mirgul Moldoisaeva noted an important need for the international community to continue to discuss and find solutions to current problems and overcome obstacles to the full implementation of the SDGs.
In addition, she stressed the importance of not only creating new mechanisms of financial assistance, but also expanding the implementation of existing ones, such as the implementation of debt swaps in exchange for projects in the areas of environmental protection, health and implementation of the SDGs.
The event is attended by representatives of about 80 UN member states and international organizations.
