Over the years of independence, Kyrgyzstan has found many partners. The country's foreign policy has changed several times over these 30 years, but the key partners have always been unchanged. China is one of these partners. This country, was one of the first to recognize the independence of Kyrgyzstan. The 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations was marked in Kyrgyzstan on January 5, 2022. During this time, relations between the countries have come a long way, the vectors have changed several times, but one thing remains unchanged - relations that are based on friendship and mutual respect.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Kyrgyz counterpart, Sadyr Zhaparov, on Wednesday exchanged congratulations on the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
In his message, Xi pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 30 years ago, China and Kyrgyzstan have always upheld the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, as well as win-win cooperation, and achieved rapid development of bilateral relations.
The two countries, he added, have reached a new height of their comprehensive strategic partnership, and set a good example for the international community in fostering a new type of international relations.
The development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations not only benefits the two countries and their people, but also contributes to peace and stability in Central Asia, Xi said.
Xi stressed that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations, and stands ready to maintain close contact with Zhaparov and further promote bilateral ties.
He suggested that the two sides take the 30th anniversary as a new starting point to enhance their strategic mutual trust, deepen Belt and Road cooperation, and lift the China-Kyrgyzstan comprehensive strategic partnership to new levels.
In his message, Zhaparov said that in the past 30 years, the two countries have successfully established a comprehensive strategic partnership and made remarkable achievements in cooperation in various fields.
The Chinese government has provided important support for Kyrgyzstan's efforts to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact, he noted.
Zhaparov also thanked Xi for his personal attention to the development of the Kyrgyzstan-China comprehensive strategic partnership, saying that he is ready to work with China to further deepen bilateral ties, and spare no effort to consolidate and expand bilateral cooperation.
A solemn event took place in Bishkek on January 5 on this occasion with the participation of President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, Deputy Chairman of Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nuran Niyazaliev, Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy Azamat Zhamankulov, Chinese Ambassador Du Dewen, representatives of government agencies, the civil sector, the diplomatic corps, public organizations, cultural and art workers, as well as Chinese citizens living and working in Kyrgyzstan.

In his keynote speech, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov praised the relations between the countries. “The level of relations between the two peoples of Kyrgyzstan and China can serve as a model for many countries. Over the past 30 years, significant progress has been achieved in strengthening bilateral cooperation and developing multifaceted interaction,” he said.
He stressed that the Kyrgyz Republic was one of the first to support the initiative of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping One Belt, One Road. This step is based on historical circumstances and is consistent with the goals of the strategic partnership.
Zhaparov also thanked China for support and assistance to Kyrgyzstan in combating the epidemic and developing the economy.
The head of state emphasized that China is one of the main partners of Kyrgyzstan in trade and investments. The Kyrgyz side is very interested in the rapid development of mutual trade and the implementation of joint investment projects. In particular, cooperation in the areas of infrastructure and transport, energy and processing industry, agriculture and tourism, as well as cooperation with Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China will yield immediate results.
In addition, the president outlined the implemented bilateral projects, which are the most important for the people of Kyrgyzstan.
He stressed that the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway should be an important step in increasing the transit potential of not only Kyrgyzstan, but also the Central Asian region as a whole, an important part of promoting the One Belt, One Road initiative.
Sadyr Zhaparov drew attention to the fact that in 2022 the country will begin to recover and revitalize the activities of Chinese companies. For its part, Kyrgyzstan is ready to provide appropriate assistance to Chinese investors who are ready to implement joint projects in the country.
At the same time, the president added that at present, special attention is paid to the issue of exporting ecologically clean agricultural products from Kyrgyzstan to China.
Sadyr Zhaparov touched upon one of the most important areas of cultural and humanitarian cooperation - education and expressed the hope that 2022 will be rich in many cultural and humanitarian events that will raise cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
The president also indicated that cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China within the framework of international organizations is an important area. Regional and international organizations are a good platform for the development of all aspects of political dialogue, multilateralism, security, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
Sadyr Zhaparov paid special attention to the fact that the People's Republic of China recently supported the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic to adopt a resolution at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly declaring 2022 the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development and expressed its readiness to co-sponsor the draft resolution. This step meets the spirit of Kyrgyz-Chinese relations and is a shining example of friendship and mutual support.
Chinese Ambassador Du Dewen also praised the fruitful results achieved by China and Kyrgyzstan over the past 30 years in the fields of politics, economy and trade, security and the humanities, as well as cooperation in the construction of Belt and Road and the fight against a novel coronavirus.
“Over 30 years, thanks to the strategic leadership of Kyrgyz and Chinese leaders, the two countries have stood the test of time and changes in the international situation - the two countries have become truly good neighbors, good friends, reliable partners and brothers,” the ambassador said.
She said that political interaction between the countries has been deepening, practical cooperation is constantly expanding, interaction in the security sphere has been actively promoting, cultural and humanitarian exchange also has been strengthening every year, close coordination is maintained in the UN, SCO and other international organizations.
“At the same time, China and Kyrgyzstan provide assistance and support to each other in the fight against coronavirus. Thus, a number of large projects have been jointly implemented and are being implemented as part of the construction of the One Belt, One Road initiative, through which Kyrgyzstan effectively promotes the country's socio-economic development and the welfare of the Kyrgyz people," she said.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyz Ambassador to China Kanayim Baktygulova recently noted that relations between Kyrgyzstan and China have a long history and have passed the test of time. “Today, significant achievements can be noted in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as in the field of security. Speaking about security, I want to note that our states have common positions on the fight against the three forces of evil - terrorism, extremism and separatism. The issues of ensuring world and regional security and stability traditionally remain one of the main priorities of the foreign policy of Kyrgyzstan and China,” she said.
The ambassador named China a true friend and reliable partner of Kyrgyzstan that has provided and continues to provide significant assistance and support since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
It should be noted that China has always been and remains one of the priority partners in the foreign policy of Kyrgyzstan. Currently, Kyrgyz-Chinese relations are developing dynamically and are at a very high level of bilateral interaction. Mutual trust, traditionally friendly and good-neighborly relations between the two countries contribute to the strengthening of the all-round strategic partnership. Between Kyrgyzstan and China, there are no fundamental and controversial issues that impede the further development of our relations, which meet the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples,” Baktygulova said.
In general, many agreements have been concluded at the moment between Kyrgyzstan and China and projects are being implemented that are at various stages of completion. And given the long history of cooperation, one can be sure that such a partnership will only grow stronger in the future.
