Bishkek, March 24, 2018 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan intend to change the status of checkpoints on the state border. Chief of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Ularbek Sharsheev and the newly appointed Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic Karim Kokrekbayev discussed the details of this issue.
The sides discussed the issues of long-term cooperation between the two countries in the border area, including the improvement of the infrastructure of the checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh section of the border and bringing them to international standards within the framework of Kyrgyzstan's integration into the Eurasian Economic Union.
Sharsheev said that the Kyrgyz side has reconstructed the Tokmok-road, Ken-Bulun-road, Ak-Tilek-road and Chaldyb-road checkpoints.
Now, the competent authorities of the two countries are considering the issue of changing the status of the Ken-Bulun and Tokmok automobile checkpoints from bilateral to multilateral (international).
The Kyrgyz side also proposes to introduce year-round operation of the "Karkyra-road" checkpoint, which currently operates seasonally from May to October.
"Cooperation of Kyrgyzstan with Kazakhstan in the border area is one of the most important aspects of bilateral relations, in which the joint struggle against international terrorism, religious extremism and separatism plays a key role. The development of partnership relations and the high-quality protection of the joint border are priority areas for cooperation between the two republics in the border area," said Sharsheev.
