Kyrgyzstan and Korea intend to create three joint centers in 2023

Bishkek, Feb. 16, 2023 / Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobaev met with Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kyrgyz Republic Lee Wonjae.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, during the meeting, the parties discussed project applications considered by Korea in 2023:

- “Creation of the Kyrgyz-Korean Center for Cooperation on Digital Technologies of Textile Production for the Development of a Sustainable Textile Industry in Kyrgyzstan for 2024-2028” (budget USD 9 million);

- "Establishment of the Research Institute of Infectious Diseases" by the Korea Infectious Disease Prevention Agency (budget USD 8 million).

- "Establishment of Geospatial Information Collaboration Center to Improve Geospatial Information Capabilities and Land Management of Kyrgyzstan" by the Ministry of Transport of Korea (budget USD 4.2 million).

Bakyt Torobaev noted that the development of Kyrgyz-South Korean bilateral relations has been and will be an important and priority area in the country's foreign policy.

In turn, Ambassador Lee Wonjae said that the Korean side would continue to support the development of Kyrgyz-Korean cooperation.

During the meeting, Asuan Zhakypov, chairman of the public association “Movement for a New Village”, presented his experience in implementing development projects in rural areas.

Bakyt Torobaev said that Asuan Zhakypov from the Kyrgyz side should be appointed project coordinator, as he has achieved great success in this field.

The Public Association “Movement for a New Village” implements a number of development projects in the countryside, such as water supply, bridge construction, road construction using the ashar method.

“In order to further strengthen cooperation in this area, I suggest that the Korean side consider the possibility of opening an office of the Semail Undong center in Bishkek in order to more effectively implement projects and disseminate experience throughout the country,” the deputy chairman of the Cabinet added.
