Bishkek, Feb.2, 2018 / Kabar /. Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan, Artem Novikov and Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda discussed the possibility of establishing joint enterprises on the territory of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, the press service of the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The meeting of ministers took place within the framework of the official visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sooronbay Jeenbekov to Tajikistan.
The ministers discussed the possibility of establishing agricultural processing enterprises in the border areas of Batken oblast of Kyrgyzstan and the Sughd region of Tajikistan.
In addition, in order to develop cross-border trade, it is proposed to develop the Leilek Free Economic Zone (FEZ ) and intensify the work of border markets.
As Minister Novikov specified, strengthening partnership with Tajikistan is an important task for Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan plans to develop full-scale cooperation with the neighboring country on a long-term and mutually beneficial basis in all spheres of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the ministers decided to take the necessary measures to create favorable conditions for mutual investment and development of trade and economic cooperation.
Problematic issues of declining volume of trade and investment were discussed as well. In order to increase these indicators, it is planned to take advantage of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan as a trading tool for the development of an integration association and an international organization.
The sides discussed the development of mechanisms for cooperation to increase trade turnover, as well as mutual supply of goods within the framework of import substitution from third countries.
The Ministries of Economy of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan discussed the approaches and mechanisms for practical implementation of the agreements of the Presidents of two countries on organizing and holding a business forum in Bishkek with the participation of entrepreneurs from both sides.
