Kyrgyzstan approves two-year program of cooperation with UN

Bishkek, March 24, 2023. / Kabar /. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov took part in the first meeting of the Strategic Coordinating Committee of the Cabinet of Ministers and the United Nations (UN).

The meeting, where draft joint work plans for 2023-2024 were discussed, was attended by heads of state bodies, as well as representatives of international organizations.

The head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet expressed gratitude to the development partners for the work done and noted that the Kyrgyz Republic highly appreciates the activities of the UN system in the country and attaches great importance to deepening comprehensive cooperation with it.

“The Cabinet of Ministers sets itself ambitious, but quite achievable goals in terms of the growth rate of the domestic economy. At the end of 2022, the country's GDP, according to preliminary statistics, amounted to 919.4 billion soms, the real growth rate was 107.0%,” Akylbek Zhaparov said.

He also added that the developed documents are relevant in the light of the large-scale economic reforms being carried out in the country, outlined by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic.

“Partners are not people who sit at the same table, they are people who look in the same direction. I am sure that our partnership is based on such principles. Most importantly, all 4 directions of the program are aimed at improving life and creating favorable conditions for our citizens,” Akylbek Zhaparov emphasized.

In turn, UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic, Antje Grawe, noted that the new five-year cooperation framework is an important step in the UN reform process, shifting the focus from “assistance” to “cooperation”.

Following the discussion, it was decided to approve the Program of Joint Work Plans for 2023-2024.

It should be noted that the implementation of joint work plans for 2023-2024 is estimated at 223 million US dollars, of which the UN system has already provided 140 million US dollars and will cooperate in four important strategic areas: 1) quality social services; 2) green socio-economic development; 3) climate action and disaster risk management; 4) rule of law, human rights, gender equality and good governance in line with the 2030 Agenda.
