Bishkek, Dec.24, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan ranked the first following the 17th World Belt Wrestling Championships, the press service of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz Republic said Tuesday.
The tournament, attended by 275 athletes from 27 countries, was held on Dec.22-23 in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
The national team won six medals, five of them gold and one bronze.
Marlen Abdurasulov (up to 60kg), Eldiyar Seksenbayev (up to 70kg) and Orozbek Ashirov (up to 100kg) became the champions.
Anara Ryskulova (up to 55 kg), Meerim Momunova (up to 60 kg) were named champions among girls.
Nagira Sarbashova in weight category over 75 kg took the third place.
Alysh, or Belt Wrestling is a form of wrestling that is one of the oldest historically recorded sports. It involves contestants aiming to knock each other over by grappling with a belt.
