Kyrgyzstan becomes full member of Int’l Kimberley Process Certification System

Bishkek, July 7, 2023. /Kabar/. As of today, the Kyrgyz Republic is a full member of the International system of certification of the Kimberley Process, the Ministry of Finance of the republic said.

With Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Kimberley Process, it has become possible to:

- excluding the entry of conflict diamonds into Kyrgyzstan (control of rough diamonds);

- emergence of businesses engaged in trade with rough diamonds, which will bring additional revenue to the state budget due to taxes;

- creation of diamond cutting (processing) enterprises and creation of new jobs.

The Kimberley Process is an international inter-governmental initiative aimed at countering the penetration of so-called "blood" or "conflict" diamonds - illegally mined gems, the proceeds of which are used to finance regional conflicts and international terrorist groups - into the global market.
