Bishkek, July 15, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan’s Kok-Boru Federation began filming a documentary. A film crew started a work on July 14 in the country's regions, the Federation said.
The main objectives of this film are to preserve the history of kok boru, propaganda and the revival of spiritual and cultural traditions of the Kyrgyz people, educating young people a sense of patriotism, love and respect for national traditions and to promote the game of kok boru in the world sports arena.
"This year marks the 25th anniversary since the development of modern rules of playing kok boru. In this regard, the Kok Boru Federation of Kyrgyzstan has launched a project to produce a documentary film on this traditional game,” Secretary General of the Kok Boru Federation of Kyrgyzstan Kuvatbek Askarbekov said.
After the completion of the project, the Federation plans to widely distribute the film through the national TV channels.
Kok boru, a traditional horse game, is a synthesis of traditional practices, performances and the game itself. It is a traditional game played by two teams on horseback, where players try to manoeuvre with a goat’s carcass (replaced with a mould in modern-day games), or ‘ulak’, and score by putting it into the opponents’ goal, unesco.org reports.
This equestrian game is very popular in the region due to its spectacularity and toughness.
