Kyrgyzstan captures 1 gold, 1 bronze medal at Asian Greco-Roman wrestling championship

Bishkek, April 21, 2022. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan earned 1 gold and 1 bronze medal in men’s competitions at the Asian Greco-Roman wrestling championships, which is taking place in Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar on April 19-24.

Thus, Kyrgyzstanis Zholaman Sharshenbekov earned gold medal.

In the finals of men's 60kg weight category, the national athlete defeated Iranian Mehri Mohsen with 4:0 and became the Asian champion.

Sharshenbekov defeated Balzhynyam Tsevenravdan of Mongolia with 8:0 in the quarter-finals. Then, he defeated Kazakhstani Ernur Fidahmetov 6:1 in the semi-finals.

Another representative of Kyrgyzstan, Adilkhan Nurlanbekov won bronze medal.

He defeated Mirzabek Rakhmatov of Uzbekistan in the bout for the third place (up to 72 kg). The Uzbek wrestler won the first period 3:0. However, the Kyrgyzstani scored three points in the second period to even the score. With Nurlanbekov scoring the last point, he took the third place.

On the first day of competition, Kyrgyzstan's Akzhol Makhmudov (77kg) and Tynar Sharshenbekov (63kg) won gold medals and another bronze medal was won by Roman Kim in the 130kg weight category.

A total of 21 Kyrgyz athletes are represented at the Asian Championship in Mongolia.
