“In our country, the World Savings Day is held for the fourth time together with the German Savings Banks Foundation, the Ministry of Education and Science, commercial banks and the Deposit Protection Agency. It is aimed primarily at improving the financial literacy of children and young people,” she pointed out.

Momunkulova said that the planning of the future appears to be the main theme of the events dedicated to this Day, and it reveals ways to properly saving money for education, home purchase, travel and many other things. This year, the World Savings Day is celebrated under the motto “Today's contribution - tomorrow's treasure”.

“This motto reflects the path of the whole campaign, because today the most popular and stable way to preserve savings for the population of Kyrgyzstan are bank deposits,” the Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasized.

She added that every year the event is gaining more and more popularity and expanding its geography, covering all regions of the country. The initiators in schools and universities of the republic hold lectures on the importance of savings, excursions and open doors days, as well as quizzes and competitions in the branches of commercial banks. Speaking at a press conference, head of the Economic Cooperation and Development Department of the German Embassy Kasien Onazorge shared that savings in his homeland are of particular importance, and have always been implied as a way out of difficult times.

“It is impossible to determine which model of saving money is better - each person should determine this for himself. The international Savings Day in question should show that savings can be justified by the positive component of everyone’s life. This is the day we celebrate the future. A future without financial worries is possible if you take care of this in advance,” Onezorge said.

Anya Hoyer, Regional Coordinator of the Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation in Germany, in turn, told that this Day became a special financial ritual for German children, the main attribute of which is a happy piggy bank.

“They are looking forward to the moment when bank employees will open these piggy banks and recount their contents. Children take pride in the fact that they have the opportunity to put money into their account. On the Savings Day, they receive small gifts for it,” she continued the story of the celebration of this event in Germany.

For children of Kyrgyzstan, a money box was also chosen as a symbol of concern for future financial well-being, but now in the form of a white yurt, and this idea is actively promoted as part of initiatives to improve financial literacy among children.

“In Germany, almost every resident makes savings - 66% of the population saves money on a regular basis. This is done in order to create a financial cushion for larger investments and timely care of your retirement age, as well as for the execution of long-awaited purchases, as the joy of a purchase made with their savings is much greater than a purchase made from a loan. ” she continued.

Hoyer pointed out that the World Savings Day has a very long history: it was approved during the First International Congress of Savings Banks in 1924 with the goal of spreading the idea of savings around the world.

Its celebration in Kyrgyzstan over the past four years has contributed to the growth of financial deposits and greater involvement of the population in the savings systems operating in the country. Thus, in 2017, the amount of deposits in commercial banks of the country, according to the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, was 118 billion soms, and by now it has increased to 127 billion soms.a
