Bishkek, Nov.14, 2019. /Kabar/. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 25th anniversary of the ratification of the Convention by the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyzstan has chosen the Right of the Child to a Childhood without Violence as a priority, thus confirming its commitment to the Convention, the Government’s press service reported.
Each country that has ratified the document puts one direction of the Convention as a priority.
For this reason, the flag of the Kyrgyz Republic was recently placed on the globe of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC). This globe was installed within the framework of events, dedicated to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the UN CRC.
Legislation prohibits all forms of violence against children and provides for liability for child abuse. Despite this, violence and abuse against children takes place.
In this regard, the following measures are envisaged to ensure the right of the child to a childhood without violence:
- Ensure the implementation of the Government Programme on Family Support and Child Protection for 2018-2028;
- Ensure implementation of the Action Plan for the Prevention of Cruelty and Violence against Children;
- Development of the institution of foster families, increase funding to enhance its development;
- Ensure access of children with disabilities to education within the framework of the Inclusive Education Development Programme.
Measures to ensure the right of the child will be implemented within five years, up to 2024.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Development, with the assistance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Science, is responsible for implementing the obligation.
