Bishkek, Feb. 15, 2021 / Kabar /. The wreaths were laid at monument to the soldiers-internationalists at the memorial in the Ataturk park in Bishkek.
According to the Mayor's Office of Bishkek, townspeople, veterans of the Afghan war and their families, the leader of the republican council of veterans of the war in Afghanistan, deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Omuraliev, chairman of the Bishkek city council, Vice Mayor Aizhan Chynybaeva and others honored the memory of the victims.
Note that commemorative events are held throughout the city.
A limited contingent of Soviet troops was brought into Afghanistan in December 1979 and withdrawn almost 10 years later, on February 15, 1989.
7,140 Kyrgyz citizens took part in the Afghan war, 252 of them died in battles, 1,500 returned with various wounds, and four were missing.
