Bishkek, Dec. 1, 2021. / Kabar /. The most honest elections in recent years have been held in Kyrgyzstan, international observer Alexey Glukhov told today at a press conference at Kabar Agency.
He said that the significant changes in the electoral legislation ensured the holding of the most honest elections in the past few years. This will make it possible in the future to hold no less fair elections at the state and municipal level.
“A distinctive feature of the past elections was also the free expression of the will of citizens, there were no facts of vote bribery or the use of administrative resources. People came on their own initiative, even at the polling stations, where conflicts often occur, everything was calm,” he said.
Also, the international observer appreciated the work of the Central Election Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic. “The CEC has provided citizens with a resource where the results of the vote count can be seen in the public domain, this is a huge work,” Glukhov summed up.
Parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan were held on Nov. 29. For the first time, 90 Parliament members were elected through a mixed electoral system with 54 of them to be elected according to a proportional system from political parties, and 36 others elected from single-mandate constituencies on a majority basis.
The candidates with the largest number of votes will enter parliament in single-mandate constituencies, and parties with at least 5 % of the vote will win in a single constituency.
A total of 21 political parties and 286 candidates took part in the elections.
