Bishkek, March 16, 2021 . / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan is considering temporarily suspending the supply of AstraZeneca vaccine under the COVAX program, Director of the Immunoprophylaxis Center Gulbara Ishenapysova told Kabar News Agency.
According to her information, the country was expecting to receive the vaccine in April.
"For our part, we have fulfilled all requirements. We had to develop until Feb. 8 a National Plan for the deployment of vaccination and enter it into their portal. We did all this ahead of schedule and should have already signed a liability agreement. An interdepartmental commission was created. However, on March 12, an information appeared in media about side effects of the vaccine in Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands. We immediately contacted the foundation in question. Now we are waiting for the results of the investigation. They will provide answers and recommendations this week," she said.
Ishenapysova noted the country did not refuse AstraZeneca, but only temporarily suspended it.
First batch of COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca was due to arrive in Kyrgyzstan in late March.
