Bishkek, Dec. 13, 2021. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz authorities have been continuing to take measures to stabilize the epidemiological situation in the country.
To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, Kyrgyzstan imposed restrictions from Dec. 1 on the entry of foreigners from countries affected by the variant. All arrivals to Kyrgyzstan are required to have a negative PCR test result, regardless of vaccination status.
In addition, the country’s Health Ministry fulfilled all the tasks set by President Sadyr Zhaparov on April 8 as part of preventing the spread of coronavirus infection in Kyrgyzstan. In particular, President Zhaparov entrusted the Health Ministry to provide medical institutions with an adequate supply of drugs and organize additional beds.
The head of state also drew attention to the strengthening of work on the early detection of coronavirus cases and stressed the need to immediately consider the issue of purchasing additional batches of test systems. Then, the president also gave specific recommendations and instructions to combat the further spread of coronavirus infection and improve the epidemiological situation in the country.
Head of the Public Health Department of the health Ministry Ainura Akmatova, in an interview with Kabar News Agency, told that all these tasks were fulfilled and the work in this direction for each of the tasks was carried out.
“In this regard, we see that in November there is a decrease in COVID-19 cases in the republic - from 32 to 70 cases. All regions are in the green zone,” the representative of the Health Ministry said.
The official drew particular attention to the fact that, specifically to reduce the incidence of infection, the Ministry of Health launched a vaccination campaign, which is ongoing. “Several types of vaccines such as Sputnik-Light, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Moderna have been delivered to the country. Another 1.5 million doses of Sinopharm vaccines will also arrive tomorrow. The Pfizer vaccine has just arrived,” she said.
Akmatova added that all measures for the prevention of coronavirus infection were organized in school and preschool institutions. “Such measures provided for the presence of filters on the entrance, provision of sanitizers, vaccination of all teachers of schools, universities, kindergartens, testing of citizens. On average, about 20 thousand tests are conducted among citizens per week. The percentage of positive results was 0.6 %. For comparison, at the peak of incidence, the percentage was 20%. That is, this suggests that we are constantly monitoring contact patients who are on outpatient treatment and those patients who have been in contact with those who have already contracted coronavirus infection,” Akmatova explained.
The representative of the Health Ministry emphasized that there are enough PCR tests in the country. Nevertheless, for those who leave, testing is paid, but in this case, the Ministry of Health proposed to reduce the cost of tests. For example, the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision conducts tests at KGS 800 (about USD 9). “In private laboratories, they cost between KGS 1,200 and 1,800,” Akmatova noted.
For an in-depth study of coronavirus infection or sequencing, samples are sent to Russia, and according to the results of these laboratory studies, it was found that 89% of the Indian strain of the coronavirus or the delta variant circulates in Kyrgyzstan, the British strain of the alpha virus is 7.6%, and 1% is the South African genotype or beta.
“In order to find out what strains circulate in the republic, the Ministry of Health sent another 100 samples to the Vector Scientific Institute in Novosibirsk. We will continue to send them further for sequencing to monitor which strains circulate in the republic,” Akmatova said.
In conclusion, the head of the department noted that all the measures that were recommended by the Ministry of Health to the population are carried out constantly, they are continuously monitored, the provision of medicines, beds, personal protective equipment in all health organizations is sufficient.
Kyrgyzstan has been fighting COVID-19 since March, 2020.
According to the latest data of the Republican Headquarters for Combating COVID-19, a total of 183,991 novel coronavirus cases have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since the pandemic, 179,040 of them have recovered and 2,770 have died.
