Bishkek, Sept. 18, 2022 . / Kabar / . President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed a decree declaring Sept. 19 as a day of national mourning in the republic, his press service said.
The armed conflict that took place on Sept. 14-17 on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Batken Oblast resulted in the death of the Kyrgyz citizens.
The clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border started on Sept. 14.
The Tajik side attacked border guarding and civilian infrastructure objects of Kyrgyzstan along the perimeter of the state border in Batken Oblast. Tajikistan used heavy armored vehicles, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and aircraft in an attempt to seize the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
According to the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Tajik military destroyed the infrastructure of outposts, as well as schools, kindergartens, retail outlets, first-aid posts, and houses. Shouting nationalist slogans, they showed blasphemy and subjected the bodies of the border guards of the Kyrgyz Republic who died at the post to mockery.
As a result, 36 people died, 134 are reported to be injured.
An emergency regime has been introduced in Batken Oblast.
