Bishkek, Aug. 11, 2021 . / Kabar / . A Concept of Demographic Policy until 2040 is being developed in Kyrgyzstan. This became known during a retreat, organized by the Office of the Kyrgyz President with technical support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Government of the Russian Federation with the participation of relevant ministries and agencies to finalize the draft of the Concept.
Members of the working group discussed the current demographic situation and population growth forecasts, and recommendations on a number of priority areas of demographic policy in Kyrgyzstan were also developed.
According to Askat Bekov, the Head of the Department of Strategic Development Policy and Planning of the Kyrgyz President’s Office, the intention of the Concept is to launch the process of preparing strategic documents in the country on a systemic level, which will be based primarily on the specifics of the development of the population of Kyrgyzstan.
This document should define policy measures in various areas of development, centered on population, human development and the creation of conditions for all generations to ensure a decent life for them.
Head of the UN Population Fund Office Azamat Bayalinov added that the thematic discussion was an excellent opportunity to receive comments from government agencies, analyze entry points and finalize a document of strategic importance for many areas.
According to a number of invited international experts, Kyrgyzstan may become the first country in Central Asia to develop a demographic policy.
Additional consultations will be held with representatives of the expert, scientific, and civil communities, and the creation of a Center for Analysis and Forecasting of Demographic Processes is under consideration.
