Kyrgyzstan discusses construction of HPP with French electric power company

Bishkek, April 15, 2022. / Kabar /. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Torobaev met with Director of the representative office of Électricité de France in Russia and the CIS countries Laurent Paganon and Ambassador of France to the Kyrgyz Republic Francois Delahousse, the press service of the Cabinet reported.

The deputy prime minister noted that Kyrgyzstan is open to investors' proposals for participation in the implementation of projects in the energy sector, including renewable energy sources.

“We have the ability to generate 142 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. Our priority is the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 (Hydro Power Plant), small HPPs, as well as solar and wind stations. We are interested in the development of green economy projects,” Bakyt Torobaev said.

Laurent Paganon, director of the representative office of Électricité de France, expressed interest in cooperation on projects in the energy sector, in particular on the construction of large hydroelectric power plants.

As a result of the meeting, the sides decided to create a working group to further study the issues of cooperation.

Électricité de France is a French multinational electric power company.

EDF operates a diverse portfolio of 120+ gigawatts of generating capacity in Europe, South America, North America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

In 2009, EDF was the largest electricity producer in the world.
