Kyrgyzstan exports over 5.7 tons of onions and garlic in January

Bishkek, March 15, 2023. /Kabar/. In January, Kyrgyz farmers sold 5,707.5 tons of onions and garlic for export. Such data are provided in the bulletin of the National Statistical Committee on foreign and mutual trade of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The total cost of the goods amounted to 80 million 283.3 thousand soms.

The main volume of deliveries was made to Uzbekistan - 5,593.5 tons, or 98%. Afghanistan imported 92 tons (1.6%) in January and 22 tons (0.38%) - Pakistan.

Pakistani farmers have suffered heavy losses due to the monsoon rains in August last year, which caused severe flooding. Since September, Pakistan has started to buy large quantities of onions from Uzbekistan.

In mid-January this year, onion stocks in Uzbekistan deteriorated due to abnormal cold weather in the country, in connection with which the supply of this product from neighboring countries was increased. To avoid a shortage of vegetables within the country, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan introduced a temporary ban on the export of onions. In Kyrgyzstan, the ban was came in force from January 31, and the restriction was lifted in early March.
