Bishkek, Jan.15, 2025. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan has extended the temporary state regulation of coal prices until Feb.15, 2025.
In order to ensure coal availability and prevent speculative price growth, maximum retail prices for coal have been set for all regions of the country.
The price of coal depends on several factors:
- remoteness from the point of extraction. The farther the point of sale, the higher the transportation costs.
- method of coal mining. Open-pit mines, such as Kara-Keche, allow to reduce the cost of production, while coal mined manually in mines, such as Zhyrgalan and Sulukta, is more expensive.
- storage and sales conditions. Availability of special sites and logistics also increase the price of coal for the end consumer. The lowest coal price was recorded in Zhumgal region of Naryn Oblast – KGS 3,900/ton (about USD 45).
The highest price for local coal is registered in Balykchy town of Issyk-Kul Oblast – KGS 10,200/ton (about USD 116) for coal from Zhyrgalan mine.
The Antimonopoly Regulation Service monitors prices on a daily basis and controls compliance with the established limits.
