Bishkek, Nov. 26, 2020 / Kabar/. In a pandemic, we are faced with an increase in domestic violence against women and girls, Minister of Labor and Social Development Aliza Soltonbekova told today at the Kabar Agency.
“This year, amid the pandemic, we faced a number of problems of domestic violence. The number of registered cases of domestic violence for 10 months increased by 10% and amounted to 7 thousand 669 cases. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has registered 305 criminal cases on the fact of violence against women in the family. More than 7 thousand security orders have been issued,” Soltonbekova said.
She added that nevertheless, despite the crisis, important steps are being taken this year to protect women and children from violence: the Council on Women's Rights and the Prevention of Gender Violence was established under the Speaker of the Parliament; deputies initiated the introduction of a legal norm in the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic on the detention of the perpetrator of domestic violence; The Ministry of Social Development was approved as an authorized state body coordinating the activities of all responsible entities in the field of protection from domestic violence; an urgent action plan was adopted to respond to domestic violence; a multi-year program "Ray of Light" was launched jointly with the UN; funding is increased to support the services of crisis centers; hotline created, etc.
