Bishkek, Aug. 8, 2024 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstani wrestlers Akzhol Makhmudov and Uzur Dzhuzupbekov won a bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Makhmudov (weight category up to 77 kg) started at the 1/8 finals stage, defeating American Kamal Bay, but then lost in the quarterfinals to Demeu Zhadraev of Kazakhstan.
In the first round of the consolation tournament for bronze, the Kyrgyz defeated a representative of Colombia, and in the bout for the final third place met with two-time world vice-champion from Azerbaijan Sanan Suleymanov.
The meeting ended 6:5 in favor of Makhmudov, who won the bronze medal.
The medal was Kyrgyzstan's third at the Games in France and 10th in history.
Uzur Dzhusupbekov (up to 97 kg) started in the 1/8 finals, where he defeated a Latvian wrestler, but then lost to an Iranian athlete in the 1/4 finals.
On Aug. 7, in the first round of the consolation tournament for the bronze medal, Dzhuzupbekov defeated a U.S. representative and earned the right to fight for the final third place.
The Kyrgyz opponent was Mohamed Gabr of Egypt. The bout ended in favor of the Kyrgyz, who became the owner of the bronze medal.
This award was Kyrgyzstan's fourth at the Paris Olympics and 12th in history.
