Bishkek, April 27, 2022 . /Kabar/. Head of the Service for Combating Illegal Drug Trafficking of Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry Ulanbek Sultanov described how acute the problem of the spread of synthetic drugs is in the republic, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
According to a number of analysts, the rapid spread of synthetic drugs is due to such characteristics as ease and flexibility of production, including the availability of various precursors and a variety of synthesis methods.
In addition, the emergence of a new way of marketing synthetic drugs, using the capabilities of modern information and communication technologies should be noted - for example, through the Internet/Darknet, which has had a definite impact on the speed and scale of their distribution.
"At the moment, the rapid spread of amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) and NPS has also affected the countries of Central Asia," the ministry said.
Law enforcement officials believe that much of the rapid growth in the trafficking of "synthetic drugs" in Central Asian countries is due to the fact that the region borders on countries such as Russia, China and Iran, which have fairly large or very dynamic markets for synthetic drugs.
"The speed of the spread of ATS and NPS in the Central Asian region has also had a certain impact on the drug situation in Kyrgyzstan. Thus, over the past few years, in addition to the traditionally used drugs of the cannabis and opium groups, the facts of seizures of ATS and NPS, among them, have been increasingly noted in the territory of the republic: "spice" (synthetic cannabinoid), amphetamine and methamphetamine ("crystal meth")," Interior Ministry said.
Due to the scale of this threat, in August 2021, a Specialized Department for Combating Synthetic Drugs, Drug Threat in IT-Technology and Legalization of Drug Profits of the Service for Combating Illicit Drug Trafficking was created.
Only for six months of work this department registered 60 facts of drug crimes.
