Kyrgyzstan has high potential of renewable energy sources: Energy Ministry

Bishkek, Dec. 3, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan has a high potential of renewable energy sources. We are actively working to attract investors interested in working in this direction, Minister of Energy of the republic Doskul Bekmurzaev said at the 5th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Turkmen Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Humanitarian Cooperation.

The meeting, held via video conferencing, was chaired by Ministers of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Doskul Bekmurzaev and Turkmenistan Hajimukhammed Rezhepmuradov, the press service of the Energy Ministry reported on Friday.

During the meeting, Bekmurzaev noted every effort is being made to increase electricity capacity using modern technology.

"The country is working to increase its energy potential and launch new energy facilities in the near future. Work on the construction of several small hydropower plants is underway. Favorable conditions have been created for domestic and foreign investors," the minister said.

Bekmurzaev added that special attention will be paid to the development of international relations.

The energy minister of Kyrgyzstan also added that during the official visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to Turkmenistan on June 27-28, an agreement was reached with the Turkmen side to import natural gas and electricity to Kyrgyzstan. He noted that from Aug. 1, the supply of electricity from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan is underway.

"Another agreement has been signed to receive electricity from Turkmenistan until 2022. Negotiations in this direction are now being conducted at the level of heads of state and ministries," the minister added.
