The press service of the Kyrgyz Government Office reported that during the meeting, organizational issues of preparation for holding events as part of the declaration of the city of Osh as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2019 were discussed.

Omurbekova noted that President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov and the government of the country pay special attention to this issue, since the events held in the framework of the year of the cultural capital of the Turkic world are of great importance, including for the image of the republic.

“It is very important for us that it is the city of Osh that was chosen as the cultural capital of the Turkic world. Within the framework of this event, representatives of a number of reputable international organizations will arrive in the country, on the other hand it will serve as a good help to attract tourists to the republic. We have experience in organizing and conducting major international events. I am sure that the city of Osh will become worthy of the title of the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2019,” she said.

In turn, Kaseinov expressed hope that the upcoming event will be held at a high organizational level, since the republic has unique experience of holding the World Nomad Games.

“The Kyrgyz Republic has the necessary creative human potential to hold the Year of the Cultural Capital of the Turkic world in the city of Osh. We got acquainted with the city, the infrastructure and we can say that the city of Osh has all the necessary conditions for a successful event of such scale at a high level,” he added.

The decision to declare the city of Osh the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2019 was taken at the 36th meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of the TURKSOY, which took place on December 18 in the Turkish city of Kastamonu.

This is the first time that a Kyrgyz city has been declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world. Previously, this status, besides Turkestan, was carried by the cities of Kastamonu (Turkish Republic), Mary (Turkmenistan), Shaki (Republic of Azerbaijan) and Kazan (Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation). The next cultural capital of the Turkic world is the city of Khiva of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
