Bishkek, Dec. 13, 2024. / Kabar /. A ceremonial event was held in Bishkek to mark International Mountain Day, during which the Declaration on Climate Change, Mountains and Glaciers was presented.
The press service of the President reported that, this declaration was initiated by the Kyrgyz Republic and to date it has been supported by 17 states.
The event was dedicated to Kyrgyzstan's initiatives on sustainable mountain development and the preservation of unique mountain ecosystems, and was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, government agencies, international organizations and financial institutions.
Opening the event, Special Representative of the President for the Implementation of the Five Years of Action for Mountain Development Dinara Kemelova thanked partner countries and international organizations for jointly promoting the Five Years of Action for Mountain Development (2023-2027), and shared the results of Kyrgyzstan's participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (Baku).
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov noted the relevance of the mountain agenda for Kyrgyzstan, as well as the importance of developing joint effective solutions and consolidating efforts to preserve mountain ecosystems and ensure the well-being of residents of mountainous regions.
The Declaration on Climate Change, Mountains and Glaciers is designed to integrate sustainable mountain development into global and national climate policies, improve monitoring and assessment of the impact of climate change on mountain ecosystems, develop and implement measures to reduce disaster risks in mountainous regions, and continue dialogue and consultations on the inclusion of the mountain agenda in the UNFCCC. The event also featured a photo exhibition by Vladislav Ushakov dedicated to the unique biodiversity of the mountains of Kyrgyzstan.
