Kyrgyzstan hosts first summit-conference of women in energy sector of Central Asian countries

Bishkek, Aug. 9, 2022 / Kabar /. The first summit-conference of women in the energy sector of Central Asian countries is being held from 9 to 10 August in Cholpon-Ata.

The conference is organized by the Association of Women in Energy in Kyrgyzstan in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development Energy in Central Asia project.

The opening ceremony was attended by Director of the USAID Mission in Kyrgyzstan - Kaya Adams, Deputy Head of the USAID Energy of Central Asia Project - Bayan Abylkairova, Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic - Doskul Bekmurzaev, President of the Association women in the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan - Altynai Abdykerimova.

The main goal of this seminar is to share knowledge and experience, create opportunities for capacity building, networking, creating a platform for women energy professionals and professionals working in the energy sector to promote gender equality and social inclusion.

The speakers were women professionals working in the energy sector of the Central Asian countries - Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, as well as representatives of ministries of energy, utilities, regulators, energy companies, universities and professional organizations.

During the event, women working in the energy sectors of the Central Asian countries were able to share their experience and knowledge, as well as discuss common goals and barriers they face professionally and personally. Together, the participants were able to think and discuss possible solutions and ways to increase the number of young women and girls entering the STEM field in the future.

The USAID Power Central Asia Project aims to support the national governments of the countries of Central Asia in achieving their national and regional energy sector priorities and unlocking the economic benefits of regional electricity trading.

The Association of Women in Energy in Kyrgyzstan was established in February 2022 to support women in energy, create a single platform for them, where they will be heard and have the opportunity to realize their aspirations and potential in the energy sector.
