Kyrgyzstan hosts Joint exercises of CSTO Peacekeeping Forces

Bishkek, Oct. 9, 2023. / Kabar /. A solemn ceremony was held in Balykchy, at the Edelweiss training ground to open the active phase of the joint exercise with the Peacekeeping Forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) “Indestructible Brotherhood-2023”.

Deputy Minister of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic, Major General Rulsan Mukambetov, told that the events are beginning the final stage of the operational-strategic exercise of the CSTO Collective Forces “Combat Brotherhood-2023”, planned taking into account the realities of the emerging global situation. “We are faced with important tasks to improve the military component of the Organization and build up its potential for the comprehensive development of the CSTO member states,” Mukambetov said.

He also noted that the joint exercise with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces “Indestructible Brotherhood 2023” is aimed primarily at joint operational and combat training of units allocated to the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the Organization’s member states. Thanks to peacekeeping exercises, personnel of the armed forces of fraternal states improve their field training and acquire the necessary practical experience in conducting peacekeeping operations.

The main goals of the exercise are to improve the practical skills of management officials and personnel of the CSTO Peacekeeping Units, to increase the coherence of military units and subunits when performing tasks during a peacekeeping operation in the Central Asian collective security region. During the exercises in high mountain conditions, the tasks of post-conflict resolution in a crisis zone will be practiced, conducting a peacekeeping operation using the forces and means of the CSTO collective security system and providing humanitarian assistance. Practical actions involve practicing combat training tasks at checkpoints and reception points for victims, while escorting convoys and cargo, liberating a populated area, rescuing hostages and providing humanitarian assistance.

Under the general leadership of the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic, Colonel Artur Temirov, national contingents of peacekeeping forces from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, operational groups of the Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat are taking part in the exercise.

In total, about 1,500 military personnel, more than 200 units of special, armored and automotive equipment, military transport, fighter and army aircraft, unmanned aircraft and combat boats were involved in the exercise.
