Kyrgyzstan, IFC discuss PPP projects on airport development

Bishkek, Feb.27, 2020. /Kabar/. Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev met with Georgina Baker, Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and Central Asia of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Government's press office said on Thursday.

During the meeting, further cooperation issues between Kyrgyzstan and the International Finance Corporation in order to implement economic prospects through the development of the private sector, as well as the promotion of new investment projects in various economic spheres were discussed.

Georgina Baker emphasized the IFC delegation has arrived in the republic to study opportunities for expanding investment cooperation and introduction of new financial instruments of interaction.

PM Abylgaziyev thanked the International Finance Corporation for assistance in efficient use of investment potential, improvement of access to financing of small and medium business, as well as development of public-private partnership (PPP) mechanism in the country.

In particular, the prime minister praised the IFC's contribution to the implementation of the first public-private partnership project in the republic on the organization of hemodialysis centers, within which the Fresenius Medical Care international company (leader in the production of medical equipment and hemodialysis services) was involved.

He also noted the assistance, provided by the financial institute to the preparation of new public-private partnership projects in the healthcare and education sectors, which are important for the country.

In addition, the sides discussed the prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation within the framework of PPP project on modernization and development of airports.

Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev stressed the importance of this project for the effective realization of Kyrgyzstan’s potential in creating a regional transit air hub, developing airport infrastructure, creating conditions for the development of tourism and opening new international directions.

IFC Vice President Georgina Baker thanked the Kyrgyz PM for the personal attention to the promotion of joint projects, first of all in the public-private partnership field, and expressed confidence that the mutually advantageous partnership would be further expanded. She also mentioned plans on investment cooperation in the construction of social dwellings.

At the meeting, the parties stressed the importance of intensifying joint efforts for the qualitative implementation of joint projects of great importance for the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
