Bishkek, Nov.26, 2019 /Kabar/. The first phase of the State Irrigation Development Program for 2017-2026 is being implemented in Kyrgyzstan, Director of the State Agency for Water Resources Kokunbek Tashtanaliyev told reporters.
He said the main task of the Agency is to implement this State Program, the total cost of which is KGS 58.8 billion.
"The State Program will allow to introduce 66.5 thousand hectares of new irrigated lands, to increase water availability of lands by 51.08 thousand hectares, to transfer 9.5 thousand hectares of lands from machine to gravity irrigation, to improve land reclamation condition by 50 thousand hectares. 245 thousand new jobs are also expected to be created in the course of implementation,” Tashtanaliyev said.
He noted 31 irrigation facilities of total cost of KGS 13.4 billion and capacity of 26.8 thousand hectares of new irrigated land and improvement of irrigation on 46 thousand hectares will be put into operation by the end of 2023.
“Funds for the implementation of the first phase are sought not only from the state budget, but also from investment sources.
This year the construction of 14 irrigation facilities has been funded, 8 of them are under construction, two facilities are nearing the end of the preparation of design and estimate documentation, and 4 facilities are under construction at the expense of investments. Three of them were financed by a grant from China, and one by the Islamic Development Bank,” the director said.
According to him, next year it is planned to open a reservoir on the Kara-Dobo river in Kyzyl-Zhyldyz village of Naryn Oblast, its total value is KGS 60 millio, capacity - 100 hectares of new irrigated land and improvement of irrigation on 368 hectares.
“The Chinese grant will also be used to build an irrigation facility in Kara-Oi village, Issyk-Kul Oblast, with a total cost of KGS 65 million, a capacity of 333 hectares of new irrigated land, and improved irrigation on 410 hectares.
The first stage of construction of the Moldo-Niyaz canal will be realized in Kadamjai region, the total cost of which amounts to KGS 280 million. This year 300 hectares of new irrigated lands will be put into operation, and 400 hectares-by May 2020," Tashtanaliyev informed.
A resolution of the Kyrgyz Government on approval of the State Irrigation Development Program for 2017-2026 was signed on July 26, 2017 by Sooronbay Jeenbekov during his time as Prime Minister.
As part of the preparation of the State Program, about 100 irrigation construction projects available in the country were considered. A total of 46 water management facilities were selected, taking into account their relevance, economic and technical indicators, social significance for the regions, residents' appeals to President, the Government and the Parliament.
