Kyrgyzstan includes in ID-cards information on holder’s ethnicity

Bishkek, 15.12.20. /Кабар/. An identification document (ID) of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan includes a column on ethnicity. The corresponding decision was signed on Tuesday by Acting Prime Minister, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Artem Novikov, the press service of the Government reported.

The changes have been introduced to implement the decision of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the above decision, the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of the republic recognized the failure to indicate the column "ethnicity" in the identification card - passport of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic of 2017 sample, approved by the resolution of the Kyrgyz Government as contrary to Article 38 of the Constitution of the republic. That is, the guarantee of everyone's right to freely determine and indicate their ethnicity is violated.

Now, according to the adopted decision, citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic can indicate their nationality in the ID-card if they wish.
