Bishkek, Nov.13, 2024. /Kabar/. Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan Meder Mashiev gave an interview to foreign media within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
In an interview, Mashiev shared key aspects of Kyrgyzstan's pavilion, which represents the country's unique initiatives and commitments to protect ecosystems and adapt to climate change, the press service of the Natural Resources Ministry reported.
He also emphasized the importance of international cooperation and climate finance needed to meet the national climate commitments stated by Kyrgyzstan. The country is actively presenting its proposals for transition to a low-carbon economy and strengthening resilience to climate change. Kyrgyzstan, with its rich natural heritage and vulnerable ecosystem, aims to attract international support to finance adaptation and emission reduction programs estimated to cost $11 billion.
Kyrgyzstan's pavilion at COP29 attracted the attention of guests, including foreign journalists, with its initiatives aimed at protecting biodiversity, preserving mountain ecosystems, rational use of water resources and developing a “green” economy.
