Bishkek, April 3, 2024. / Kabar/. The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan denied the information that farmers cannot sell potatoes and give them to livestock feed.
According to official data, 42.2 thousand tons of potatoes were exported in 2023 from the country to Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
That is, the price of potatoes in April 2023 was 23.3 soms, in May 30 soms, in June 45 soms, in September 30 soms, in October 25.2 soms, in November 26.5 soms.
And in 2022 it was 25.6 soms in April, 35 soms in May and 40 soms in June.
This year, the average wholesale price for potatoes in the republic in March is 10-12 soms, and in the markets they are sold at a price of 18 to 25 soms.
Currently, work is underway to increase export volumes to Uzbekistan. Negotiations are also underway to export a large batch of potatoes to China.
It is noted that on April 1, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development, Deputy Akylbek Tumenbaev raised the issue of potatoes, which farmers cannot sell, and they rot in basements or are fed to animals.
The ministry says this information is not true.
