Bishkek, Feb.13, 2020. /Kabar/. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Korea Dinara Kemelova met with Kwon Goohoon, the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation, the press service of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Korea reported.
During the meeting, Kemelova noted Kyrgyzstan views South Korea as one of the priority partners in the Asian region.
She also emphasized that in the light of the “New Northern Policy" initiative, announced by South Korea, Kyrgyzstan is very interested in expanding trade and economic cooperation with South Korea, in promoting projects on green economy, digitalization, transport, energy, infrastructure, textile industry, agriculture, tourism, etc.
In his turn, Chairman Kwon Goohoon positively assessed the development of democracy in Kyrgyzstan and South Korea’s contribution to this process.
In addition, he said in Korea 2020 has been declared the Year of Northern Economic Cooperation. In this regard, the South Korean side has planned a number of events aimed at strengthening cooperation between South Korea and Russia, Mongolia, Central Asian countries, etc.
In 2017, "New Northern Policy" was declared in South Korea at the initiative of President Moon-Jae in, aimed at expanding the economic space by establishing ties with a number of states in the north.
The "New Northern Policy" initiative has a political and economic direction, which aims to strengthen South Korea's interaction with Russia, Mongolia and Central Asian countries.
In 2017, a special Committee on Northern Economic Cooperation was established to create new engines of growth by strengthening ties in various fields such as transport, logistics, energy, etc.
