Kyrgyzstan, Iran discuss possibility of increasing trade turnover

Bishkek, Oct. 12, 2022. /Kabar/. On October 11, Bishkek hosted the first meeting of the Kyrgyz-Iranian Business Committee, which discussed the possibility of increasing trade from USD 80 million to USD 200 million, the press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The meeting was attended by Roman Kasymov, Senior Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic and Chairman of the Committee from the Kyrgyz side, Kazem Shirdel, Chairman of the Committee from the Iranian side, representatives of ministries and business circles of the two countries.

The Iranian side expressed interest in Kyrgyzstan to invest in agriculture, engineering, metallurgy, mining, as well as in cooperation in the provision of engineering and technical services. In addition to this, it is ready to consider the issue of introducing a visa-free regime for Kyrgyz entrepreneurs for up to 14 days.

The Kyrgyz side proposed to supplement this list with contract manufacturing and business tourism opportunities following the example of a German project implemented by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic.

As part of this project, entrepreneurs undergo an internship in Germany and further develop production using German technologies in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, in connection with the sanctions, domestic business has expressed interest in the supply of Russian analogues of fuels and lubricants from Iran, the report said.

The parties agreed that in order to implement the plans, first it is necessary to resolve issues with bank transfers, as well as logistics through the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which can be extended towards Iran. At the end of the meeting, they agreed to organize a trip of the Kyrgyz delegation to Tehran for a more detailed acquaintance with the local business environment.
