A virtual meeting was held on Monday between Deputy Chairwoman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Zhyldyz Bakashova, Chief Scientific Adviser/Director at the UK Department for International Development, Professor Charlotte Watts and Ambassador of Great Britain to Kyrgyzstan Charles Garrett.
The sides discussed effective methods of combating COVID-19 and increasing vaccination rollout.
During the meeting, Zhyldyz Bakashova thanked UK representatives of for their assistance to Kyrgyzstan in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for their support through the COVAX international mechanism, and expressed interest in the UK practices used to treat and prevent coronavirus infection and vaccination.
"We are closely monitoring the epidemiological situation in other countries, including Great Britain. We would like to point out the successful vaccination campaign that has been underway. More than 87% of the population has received the vaccine to date, and most of the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have been lifted. We are very interested in the UK's experience in vaccinating against coronavirus infection," she added.
According to Professor Charlotte Watts, the rate of vaccination has increased significantly as a result of increased public awareness, the availability of evidence that scientifically substantiates the effectiveness of vaccines and the use of targeted mechanisms aimed at engaging citizens based on age, interest, profession, etc.
This online platform for the exchange of experiences was organized as a result of the working meeting of Zhyldyz Bakashova and Charles Garrett on June 21, 2021.
