"Kyrgyzstan is a promising partner for us, but despite the growth of trade turnover this year, the overall level of bilateral cooperation cannot be considered high,” President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said Monday during an extended bilateral talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov in Ashgabat.

During the talks, the Turkmen leader stressed the need to carry out a thorough analysis and remove obstacles that hinder full cooperation, the press service of the Kyrgyz president reported.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow attached special importance to today's meeting with Sadyr Zhaparov, noting that they would assess bilateral cooperation in many areas, and discuss the prospects for further interaction.
He emphasized that one of the main issues on the agenda is the preservation, maintenance of universal peace, stability, successful countering of terrorist threats and settlement of the situation in Afghanistan.

In addition, the president of Turkmenistan drew attention to the cooperation on environmental issues. In particular, joint work on counteracting negative impacts of climate change must be considerably stepped up.
Berdimuhamedow stated the need to attach great importance to developing trade and economic cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and to qualitatively expand these relations.
During the talks, the sides discussed topical issues of the Kyrgyz-Turkmen bilateral cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres. It was proposed to hold joint exhibitions on a regular basis and develop contacts with the business community of the two countries.

Berdimuhamedow identified bilateral cooperation in the field of energy as an important point in the talks. In particular, the supply of Turkmen natural gas and electricity to Kyrgyzstan.
He added the Turkmen side is ready to meet all the needs of Kyrgyzstan and to discuss technical and organizational issues.
