Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan agree to facilitate crossing border for Kyrgyz citizens

Bishkek, March 4, 2021. / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have agreed to facilitate the crossing of the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan by Kyrgyzstani citizens, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev said at a news briefing on Thursday.

He noted the issue of border crossing was raised during a state visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to Kazakhstan on March 2-3.

Kazakbaev specified that the issue of border crossing, the possibility of transit passage of Kyrgyz citizens going to Russia and China, as well as those flying to third countries from Almaty was raised.

"Currently, the procedure of crossing the border with Kazakhstan is complicated. It is necessary to get an invitation from the Kazakh side, coordination through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, notification of the Kazakh Embassy. We have agreed to facilitate these procedures. Kazakhstan has closed the border because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

The foreign minister added the issue of opening all crossing points between the two countries was discussed.

Minister Kazakbaev noted that within the framework of the visit, an issue of road freight carriers was raised, as well as the existence of problems of rail carriers on the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan-Russia and China-Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan routes.
