Bishkek, June 3, 2020 / Kabar /. A Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agricultural technologies and sciences was signed between Kyrgyzstan and the Republic of Korea, the press service of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Korea reported.
A delegation led by Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the Republic of Korea, Dinara Kemelova, visited the Rural Development Administration of the Republic of Korea in Jeonji city and met with the Administrator - General Director Kim Kyeongkyu.
During the meeting, the signing ceremony by the Korean side of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agricultural sciences and technologies between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Rural Development administration of the Republic of Korea was held and handed over through diplomatic channels.
The memorandum was previously signed by Minister of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic Erkinbek Choduev.
Within the framework of this memorandum, the KOPIA (Korea Programme on International Agriculture) Kyrgyzstan Center will be created in the Kyrgyz Republic, which promotes cooperation in the field of agricultural research, building capacity of Kyrgyzstan in crop production and seed production, grow seeds adapted to local conditions and increase agricultural productivity cultures.
During the conversation, Kemelova noted that the establishment of the KOPIA Center in Kyrgyzstan is of particular importance for the implementation of projects aimed at the development of agriculture in the regions of the country, and expressed hope for the involvement of Korean innovative technologies in this industry. The ambassador added that Kyrgyzstan needs to strengthen the capacity of laboratories and apply new technologies for growing vegetables and fruits, and also drew attention to the promotion of projects on smart farming and automated greenhouses.
Kim Kyeongkyu said that his Administration will make every effort to implement effective projects in Kyrgyzstan. He noted that together with the Kyrgyz side, priority projects will be selected for implementation in agriculture, which will benefit the entire Kyrgyz people.
The core mission of the KOPIA:
· To develop locally-adaptable technologies and seeds by sharing knowledge and experience with partner countries
· To disseminate the localized technologies and practices to local farmers Technical cooperative
· To build better research capacity through exchange programs for scientist and experts
The Rural Development Administration of the Republic of Korea has KOPIA centers in 20 countries.
