Kyrgyzstan launches project aimed at empowering rural women

Bishkek, Sept. 22, 2020 / Kabar /. The Development of Law and Business public fund together with the Union of Local Self-Governments (LSG) of Kyrgyzstan launched the project "Rural Women", Director of the Union of LSG Omurbek Almanbetov told atKabar A gency.

“The project is aimed at changing the model of social behavior towards rural women and at increasing the legal awareness and literacy of rural women about their legal rights and eliminating discriminatory stereotypes towards them through raising the level of legal culture and information,” he said.

Almanbetov also noted that the goals of this project are:

- reduction and elimination of negative discriminatory stereotypes against rural women;

- raising the level of awareness and literacy of rural women about their legal rights;

- expanding the legal opportunities of rural women by increasing the number of people applying to the Center for Free Consulting and Legal Assistance of the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic and the "Solidarity Bus" in Chui and Osh regions for legal assistance.

“We expect that the project will assist in creating a certain personal attitude towards negative discriminatory stereotypes against rural women by providing reliable information, increasing the knowledge of rural women about their rights, and also eradicate discriminatory negative stereotypes against rural women,” the director explained.
