Kyrgyzstan leads in Central Asia in consumption of antibiotics

Bishkek, Nov. 18, 2021 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan occupies one of the leading places in the consumption of antibiotics among the countries of the Central Asian region, Nurbolot Usenbaev, Deputy Director of the Republican Center for Quarantine and Especially Dangerous Infections of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, said at a meeting on the topic "Antimicrobial drugs require careful handling", timed to coincide with the World Week of the correct use of antimicrobial drugs.

He said that in the ratings for the use of antibiotics, Kyrgyzstan has bypassed Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, but at the same time slightly yielded to Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Georgia.

“In Kyrgyzstan today, 50% of the population use antibiotics in treatment and in everyday life. Thus, in recent years, drug-resistant forms of tuberculosis, pneumonia, venereal and skin diseases have been increasingly recorded. Currently, the Ministry of Health is taking measures to combat the uncontrolled use of antibiotics among citizens, namely, the dispensing of antibiotics in pharmacies is carried out only on prescription, the recommendations for connecting antibiotics to treatment are also tightened, various explanatory measures are being taken. However, the problem is still urgent,”Usenbaev said.
