Bishkek, March 10 / Kabar /. This year, Kyrgyzstan marks the 25th anniversary of its accession to the United Nations. On 2 March 1992, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 46/225 on the admission of Kyrgyzstan to the UN.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, on March 9, 2017, a solemn reception on behalf of the five Central Asian countries - Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan - was held at the UN Headquarters on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the UN membership. The President of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly and the high leadership of the UN Secretariat, as well as the Ambassadors, the Permanent Representatives of the UN member states took part in the reception.
In his congratulatory speech, Chairman of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, P. Thompson, emphasized the important role of the Central Asian countries in the UN, the resolutions that were adopted at the initiative of five Central Asian countries. In particular, P. Thompson stressed the contribution of Kyrgyzstan to the promotion of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation for the sake of peace.
Reference. On December 22, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution "Promotion of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, Mutual Understanding and Cooperation for Peace", the co-author of which was Kyrgyzstan. The resolution welcomes the contribution of the Second World Nomad Games held in Kyrgyzstan from 3 to 10 September 2016 in promoting intercultural dialogue, strengthening social cohesion, peace and development.
During the reception, a photo exhibition featuring images of the most important historical moments of each of the Central Asian countries over a 25-year history was also presented.
