Bishkek, June 22, 2020. /Kabar/. At a news briefing at the Government's House, Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Health Sabirzhan Abdikarimov was asked why a state of emergency was introduced when number of COVID-19 patients was low, and now everything works while new cases continue to increase.
According to the health minister, at the beginning of the epidemic in the country, emergency and state of emergency, quarantine and strict restrictions were introduced.
"When the state of emergency and emergency are imposed, restrictive measures and closure of many facilities are introduced. Then, by the decision of the Republican Headquarters, we gave permission to gradually resume economic activity. But now the number of new cases is growing, and up to 200 cases are registered per day. Unfortunately, if this continues, strict measures will be taken and restrictive measures introduced taking into account the epidemiological situation," he said.
Abdikarimov added the Headquarters had decided to limit the movement of public transport on weekends starting from this week. Mass events and meetings have been banned to this day.
As he shared, despite the bans, people gather, hold different family events and new cases are revealed.
Citizens do not observe basic hygienic requirements. Many people are self-medicating. This leads to a large number of patients and sometimes to sad news of deaths.
