Bishkek, March 23, 2021 . / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Health and Social Development may start vaccination against COVID-19 within the next days, Kabar Agency has learnt from the press service of the ministry.
Last week, the country received the first batch of Chinese-made Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine in the amount of 150,000 doses.
"It was said that vaccination may begin in late March or early April. So far, the exact date of the vaccination start is unknown," the press service said.
The Ministry of Health noted that at a start-up phase, vaccination will be conducted in Bishkek, Chui Oblast and Osh city. Nine vaccination sites have been set up - five in Bishkek, two in Chui Oblast and two in Osh. Medical workers who will be attracted in the vaccination campaign are being trained at the moment.
The first to be vaccinated are those who have to interact with large numbers of people, such as medics, teachers, law enforcement and security officials, citizens with chronic diseases and all those who are at risk group.
The Health Ministry stressed the vaccination would be on a voluntary basis and nobody would be forced to get it, adding that the vaccine is now the only way to fight the coronavirus.
On March 19, Kyrgyzstan has received 150,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.
Sinopharm is the first coronavirus vaccine approved in China. It is now actively used domestically. It has also been approved in several foreign countries.
