Kyrgyzstan opens 73 new schools over past 5 years

Bishkek, Feb. 10, 2022. / Kabar /. 73 new schools have appeared in Kyrgyzstan over the past 5 years, chief specialist of the department of social statistics of the National Statistics Committee Ainura Koshmatova told during a press conference in Bishkek.

She said that over the past 5 years, the number of school educational organizations in Kyrgyzstan has increased, both in urban and rural areas.

Thus, at the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year, there are 2,335 general education schools in the country, which is 73 schools more than at the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.

“The increase was achieved through the introduction of new schools, mostly private ones, in Chui, Osh, Batken regions, as well as in Bishkek and Osh,” Koshmatova said.

She also added that the number of students in general education institutions has increased, which indicates an increase in the birth rate in most regions of the Republic.

“The number of students in schools has increased from 1 million 200 thousand to 1 million 400 thousand over 5 years. The largest share of students was in Osh and Jalal-Abad regions, where 19% of the total number of students studied,” the specialist said.

At the same time, during this period, there was an excess of the number of boys over the number of girls.

So, at the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year, the share of girls was 49%, and the share of boys was 51%.
